Last summer, we took a peek at the Dallas Police Department’s murder stats and suggested you were best served by staying home between 6 p.m. and midnight on Wednesdays, the prime time for murder. As we just got our hands on the latest batch of stats — and already warned you about the traditional spike in murders during the summer months — it seemed a good time to send word that you’re in need of updating your schedules.
Why? Because these days, you’re most likely to get murdered on a Monday (Mike Judge was right). And homicides this year are most frequent between midnight and 6 a.m., because, right, nothing good ever happens after 2 in the morning.
As usual, handguns are the most common vessel of death, causing 62
percent of the 91 homicides this year. The biggest motive? “Unknown,”
followed closely by “altercation” and less closely by “drugs.” Whether
or not your residence or apartment is safer than the streets is a
toss-up, more or less: Thus far, 52 percent of Dallas’s murders have
occurred in a public place versus a residence, apartment or motel. And
Southeast Dallas is shaping up to be the big leader in homicides this
year.
