Just when you thought it was impossible to improve on the delicious, slightly bigoted glory that is a Chik-Fil-A fried chicken sandwich, Yum! Brands came along and blew your mind. Super Chix, the fast food conglomerate’s fast casual, one-location concept in Arlington, was somehow better than its fast-food inspiration, if a little inconsistent. Either way, you were pretty damn excited about that fried chicken and custard when Super Chix opened its doors early last year.
Now, the successful chicken joint will finally open the doors to the North Dallas location it announced earlier this year. The Preston & Belt Line location is still considered part of an “exploratory concept,” which hints at no plans to build a Super Chix next door to every Taco Bell in America. This exclusivity, of course, likely means that you can expect long lines when Super Chix opens its doors tomorrow morning.
If you haven’t made it to Arlington to check out this slightly more upscale version of Chik-Fil-A, it’s definitely worth the drive. The concept is an improvement on the original in a number of ways, from the hand-cut fries to the tangy sauce that is remarkably similar to Chik-Fil-A sauce. Hand-scooped custard is also certainly much better than “IceDream” or whatever the hell comes in those papery sugar cones.
Unfortunately, Super Chix hasn’t announced any plans to offer freebies as they did when the first location opened its doors. On opening day at the original location, you could print out coupons for free fries and custard. Perhaps that was because the restaurant is next door to the University of Texas at Arlington, and nothing brings out college kids in droves like free food, especially fried chicken.

The North Dallas location has yet to announce its hours, but Arlington is open from 11 am to 9 pm on the weekdays, and 11 am to 10 pm on the weekends, You can probably expect the Dallas hours to be the same, which means that you’ll need to start lining up outside the restaurant at about 10 am if you want first dibs on those freshly fried chicken tenders. If the line looks too long, don’t give up and go to Chik-Fil-A — the wait here is totally worth it.
