In the realm of horror film trailers that use hyperbole to sell their movie, Hellraiser is one of the very, very few that actually live up to the promises.

A nightmare unlike anything that you have witnessed”? Yep, that is true! When you’re talking Clive Barker’s 1987, debut film, it’s not an exaggeration. The friggin’ tagline is “He’ll tear your soul apart.” Barker’s film, which was adapted from the far superior novel, is summarized on IMDB as:

An unfaithful wife encounters the zombie of her dead lover, who’s being chased by demons after he escaped from their sado-masochistic Hell.

Aside from the incredibly simplistic description of a movie where someone is named “Pinhead” (and the out-of-nowhere use of “unfaithful”), the film has no zombies. Nay! It’s about hell-demons who very, VERY much love nipple hooks. And blood. I mean, who doesn’t? The point is: the nightmare factor on this video is through the roof.

There’s gouging, blood-letting, face-peeling and teeth chattering…and all of it’s completely, utterly original. I can guaran-damn-tee that you’ve never seen a horror movie like this before, and all-but-prove that watching this with your mother or grandmother will buy you a one-way ticket to the asylum.

The Most Memorable Moment (VERY NSFW):

Gee, let’s think about–IT’S THE HORRIFYING END SEQUENCE. Reminder: this is a film about hell-demons who very much enjoy the fine art of sadomasochism. Don’t expect anything less than the most shocking ending of any horror movie ever. Now who’s using hyperbole.
