If you’re a fan of the web site Deadspin, you’ve been mesmerized at least once this year by Manny Ramirez and Taiwanese baseball, which seemed to have a pretty fun marriage going. But that’s over now, because your Texas Rangers have signed Ramirez to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock.

From the Rangers:

Ramirez, 41, will report to Round Rock on Thursday, July 4, and will work out with the club for a few days before being activated by the Express. He began the year with Taiwan’s EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, batting .352 (64-182) with 8 homers, 13 doubles, and 43 RBI. He drew 23 walks against 21 strikeouts, with a .422 on-base percentage and .555 slugging mark. Ramirez was removed from the Rhinos active roster on June 19.

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?

We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.

$30,000

Ramirez last played in the majors in 2011, when he abruptly retired after testing positive for steroids. He was reinstated by baseball last year and signed with the Oakland A’s but never made it to the bigs.

I really wish he’d been sent to Frisco.
