Glimpse, October’s Aurora-light event that illuminated the Design District, was a nice reminder that art can still be unexpected, thanks to grassroots organizing. Glowing jellyfish sculptures blew in the wind. A performance art piece tiptoed through the Donor Reflecting Pool in front of the Winspear. Experimental sound wranglers, Waterfalls, played through cascading smoke and a prism of pastel light.

Everywhere you turned something intriguing was occurring.

The evening served its intended purpose: It left me wanting more. Getting it, well that requires a group effort. Aurora’s organizers have posed a challenge: raise $30,000 by Saturday, March 16. The money goes to making the big show, Aurora proper, happen on October 13. Go here to the fundraising page and pony up.
