Uchiko in Austin is not fucking around, you guys. Owner Tyson Cole won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest in 2011. This year, Uchiko executive chef, Paul Qui, took home the Best Chef: Southwest for 2012 at the James Beard Awards. And that was right after Qui won Top Chef.
Austin hipster-types will tell you that they went to Uchiko before it was cool. And they did. And I’m telling you, I don’t care if it’s uncool to like the popular place– this food is fandamntastic. I had the opportunity to speak with the 10-course tasting menu, and it was very open and honest about its badassness:
So, hey, Chef’s Omakase. Mind if I take a couple of pictures of you before I stuff you in my face?
You ever get bothered by all the men and women who are constantly drooling all over you?
Hey there, Miss Bacon Tataki.
Do your face a favor: get to Austin, get your reservation, and order this 10-course tasting menu as soon as you can. The service here is great, the food is crazy-go-nuts and when people at the table next to you get all jealous of what you ordered, you get to feel super smart. Uchiko is a hard yes.
