Former council member Veletta Forsythe Lill, at right
Speaking of the arts, Mayor Tom just fired off a missive naming former council member Veletta Forsythe Lill as the city’s new Arts District coordinator. Lill (our Best Council Member in ’01) takes over the position previously held by Howard Hallum, who’s currently chair of the board of directors for the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.
Leppert — who is out of state this week with his family, which is why he didn’t attend the Shaws’ funeral yesterday — had this to say about Lill: “With her great passion for the arts, her diplomatic skills and her high standing in the arts community and at City Hall, I know Veletta is a perfect fit for this role.” Bonus attraction: Lill was also Leppert’s right-hand gal during the Trinity River toll road debates. –Sam Merten
