Rhett Miller, Murry Hammond, Ken Bethea and Philip Peeples popped up on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night to perform “Champaign, Illinois” from their just-released The Grand Theatre, Volume One — not because it’s the single, but because, says their Twitter feed, Leno requested the track. Hey, now!

And, from the looks of the above post-show photo, it seems like everyone had a good time, too. Hammond’s kind of the odd man out here, but Bethea and David Spade look pretty chummy as Peeples and Miller respectively make Leno and Christine O’Donnell appear plenty uncomfortable.

Check out the band’s performance, which, indeed, features plenty of Miller posing for his national audience, after the jump. There, you’ll also find a behind-the-scenes clip of Miller taking you on a tour of The Tonight Show‘s back stage area — worth the watch if only to find out what he may or may not have done in a fellow guest’s bathroom.
