A Friend of Unfair Park wonders if the rumors are true — if Mike Snyder is indeed out at KXAS-Channel 5 by month’s end. Why, yes, yes they are: Snyder tells Uncle Barky that his 30-year-run with the NBC owned-and-operated will end on July 1, when he retires. So, did he jump or was he pushed following his demotion to the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts one year ago? The station and Mr. Burgundy insist it’s voluntary, but to quote the great Darren Hambrick, what do voluntary mean? Says Synder, in this case:
“Would I like to stay? Sure I would. I would absolutely love to stay until I could work no more. But now I’ve been given an opportunity to explore other adventures. And I think it’s important for people to know that I’ve not been sitting idly by and hoping something would happen and fall in my lap. I’ve been working on this transition for the better part of a year.”
