As Jim noted last week, disgraced former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is out of the joint and heading to Texas — where, no kiddin’, he has a job interview tomorrow. So reports The Detroit News today, which eliminates one potential employer from the list of would-be bosses: T.D. Jakes and The Potter’s House, which Kilpatrick visited back in September. (Actually, it takes a second potential employer off the list as well: Comerica, which moved from Detroit to Dallas in 2007. Like that was gonna happen.) Says the paper, Kilpatrick …
… has a judge’s permission to travel today to an undisclosed location in Texas. The job offer also has been kept under wraps, but Kilpatrick’s lawyer has said the interview will be Wednesday and a decision could come as soon as Thursday.
Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner, who issued orders modifying Kilpatrick’s five year probation to allow the six-day out-of-state trip, said the job offer was the city’s best chance at getting paid $1 million in restitution that was part of Kilpatrick’s sentence.
