Our neighborhood was trashed overnight as dozens of A.H. Belo’s Briefings were dumped along the curbs and into the streets like it was some kind of prank. As you can see in the photo, I sorta, kinda got two of the freebies intended for non-Dallas Morning News subscribers — even though I take the paper, how generous — and the scene replayed itself at house after house, on block after block throughout my Northwest Dallas neighborhood. Who delivers these things, anyway? An infant lacking math skills (one per household, please) and the arm strength required to hit the lawn? Still, it could have been worse, as evidenced by the pretty hysterical photo sent by a crosstown Friend of Unfair Park that’s after the jump. Anyone got a ladder he can borrow?
In other Belo-related news, Dunia Shive, president and CEO of the TV side of the operation, yesterday sent a letter to shareholders in which she wrote of an “intense focus on cost reductions,” which include: “the freezing of open positions Company-wide, staff reductions in certain markets, and other cost-saving measures.” –Robert Wilonsky
