Everybody has a story about Trees. It could be about one of the legendary punk shows from Deep Ellum’s quote-unquote golden years. It could be about Kurt Cobain. Or it could be from any number of nights spent there since the venue reopened five years ago. Regardless, those memories are doubtlessly a little hazy, but no matter. They’re just the sort of things that will be bringing people together years from now.

Now, as luck would have it, your favorite Trees story could help you score a pair of free tickets to their anniversary party, which happens this Saturday night.

It’s not all that long ago that Trees had seemed to have gone the way of Deep Ellum — which is to say, the way of the dodo. After the nefarious decline of the neighborhood a decade ago, both have happily bounced back in recent years, and the occasion has gotten some folks feeling like celebrating (and maybe a little bit nostalgic). Recently, the Kessler hosted reunion show for Trees’ good old days. This weekend, Trees brings things full-circle on the anniversary of its reopening in 2009.

Headlining the celebrations will be Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights. Joining them on Saturday night will the Soft White Sixties, the Roomsounds, and Cody Jasper. Tickets for the show are an already reasonable $5, but those lovely folks at Trees are looking to give away a few pairs of tickets for the low, low price of $0.
