By far, the best-reviewed doc of ’09 thus far is Anvil! The Story of Anvil, Sacha Gervasi’s rockumentary about a Canadian thrash-metal band’s fall and rise. Noted The Village Voice‘s thumbs-up, it’s “A Hoop Dreams for heshers,” so, ya know, all right, all right, all right. It finally gets a Dallas opening date May 29 at the Magnolia Theatre in the West Village — which I mention today only because the Mag just sent word that following the 9:45 p.m. screening that first Friday, the band will actually rock the motherlovin’ theater, so drink accordingly. And so many hits from which to choose. Tickets for the screening-concert-Q&A will be available on the Mag’s Web site any … second … now.
