In love with furniture and real estate? Hoping for a life lesson and some belly laughing? Then meet Kate. Kate has a love for expensive furniture. So, she buys it at Salvation Army and then marks it up to sell at her downtown Manhattan furniture store. But there's another facet to Kate--she feels guilty for wanting nice things and living in a nice place when there are mounds of homeless men and women. Kate also has a teenage daughter, Abby, who doesn't understand giving to others and wants a $200 pair of jeans. Starring Catherine Keener, Amanda Peet and Oliver Platt, Please Give is a tale of contradictions, good intentions and moral questioning. The characters interact with their cranky neighbors and seemingly homeless men and women, all while trying to figure out the balance between owning nice things and giving them away. The film, written and directed by Nicole Holofcener, was a selection for the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals. Please Give will be showing, as a part of an ongoing series featuring critically acclaimed films, at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Friday through Sunday. Tickets are $8.50 or $6.50 for Modern members. For more information, call 817-738-9215 or visit themodern.org/magnolia.
