The sadly incoherent old-man bullshit spewed by Nick Hornby in his recent New York Times op-ed tribute to Philadelphia pub-rockers Marah wasn’t only annoying to humans who listen to music for more than a reminder that the 1960s have been over for longer than they happened. It was also in conflict with the spirit of Marah’s music, which is about everyday folks and their everyday triumphs and hopefully-not-everyday disasters; none of the characters in the tunes on 20,000 Streets Under the Sky, Marah’s new album, would want to be singled out as keepers of any flame, let alone Hornby’s stuffy-ass neoconservative one. Show up in support of them, not dead air.
