Chances are you already know everything there is to know about The Breakfast Club, so there’s nothing I can say that hasn’t been said a million times already. It’s a classic, and rightly so. Since its debut more than 20 years ago, teen movies have gotten brasher, sexier and more in-your-face than ever before. Though sometimes entertaining to watch on USA on a Saturday afternoon, the modern teen movie’s shock value or cheesiness will never be able to withstand repeated viewings in a way that John Hughes’ catalog from the ’80s can—with The Breakfast Club at the helm. We’ve all played the “Which Character Are You?” game (Basketcase, thank you very much) and think of the Shermer five as our own best friends. It’s now time for a class reunion on the big screen, just do your best to not talk along with the movie (we all know it word for word, but you’ll never be as cool as John Bender). Sit in on detention with some of your Brat Pack buddies when Midnight Madness features The Breakfast Club Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. Tickets are $8.
