This Saturday, Dallas samples The Slideluck Potshow, an event that brings food, art and community around a common table in more than 50 cities globally. It mixes the nostalgic aspects of a slower life when folks indulged in potluck dinners and then shared family slideshows, with the very modern portfolios of local artists in the Dallas area. Here’s how it works: You bring a dish to share (make sure it’s tasty), then get good and gluttonous, picking and choosing your way through the potluck dinner, beginning at 6 p.m. at The Power Station (3816 Commerce St.). Once everyone is sated and sedated, entertainment is provided in the form of a multimedia slideshow, which showcases the best work of a select cast of local photographers (8 p.m.). It’s a delicious take on a gallery night, and there’s even an afterparty happening at the Amsterdam Bar once the show wraps up. Visit slideluckpotshow.com. It’s free to get in if you bring a jar of peanut butter for the Food Bank, and/or a dish to share. Otherwise, it’s $10.
