Dallas Theater Center has turned the Wyly Theatre into a sports arena for its latest play, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. Kristoffer Diaz’s dramedy is set in the world of professional, televised wrestling, so scenic designer Tak Kata created a full-size ring, with giant video screens, confetti cannons and loud music accompanying the action. The play, says DTC artistic director Kevin Moriarty, is a metaphor for current American culture, with its emphasis on pre-determined winners and losers, good guys and bad. Alex Hernandez, Corey Jones, Aly Mawji, Jamin Olivencia — all making their DTC debuts — lead the all-male cast also starring veteran Dallas actor (and SMU acting teacher) Michael Connolly. Jaime Castañeda directs. Wednesday’s show is at 7:30 p.m., and you can see it through November 11 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, 2400 Flora St. Tickets start at $15 at dallastheatercenter.org, or call 214-880-0202.
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Oct. 24. Continues through Nov. 11, 2012
