Man, talk about a faux pas. When I signed up to preview Rickie Lee Jones at the Lakewood Theater, who I pictured in my mind was Joni Mitchell, I thought I’d get to talk about discovering Mitchell for the first time last year thanks to a promo cd and how her aged voice and haunting tunes could bring a tear to my eye. I was waiting to mention that heartbreaking moment with Emma Thompson in Love, Actually that is appropriately punctuated by Mitchell’s song, “Both Sides Now”. Alas, no. I’m fully aware of Jones’ legendary status in the music world but admittedly I don’t know her stuff. And I find it hard to rely on the four songs from her myspace page to make a secure judgment. I guess it could be worse. I could have mistaken her for Ricki Lake. Jones performs 8 p.m. Friday at 1825 Abrams Parkway. Tickets are $30 to $45. Call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.

Fri., March 30, 8 p.m.
