The McKinney Avenue Contemporary (3120 McKinney Ave.) is a local treasure. Operating on free admission, this nonprofit space brings all forms of contemporary art into its showrooms. That gives Dallas folks the opportunity to explore and experience this frequently shifting category, without all the pretension that so often clings to new work. Now, all of that is great and we thank the MAC for doing said public service, but the art space’s other gift is its inherent ability to throw a great party, a fact proven each holiday season at Blue Yule. Saturday marks the 18th year the MAC has asked local artists to design ornaments to auction off, and that means another year of booty-checking, competitive shopping from MAC supporters. There are drinks, a nice spread, holiday tunes and a silent auction if you’re angling for a bigger prize. Plus, all of Dallas’ nicest people show up. Be one of them at Blue Yule, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $25 for members or in advance, and $35 for non-members at the door. Visit the-mac.org.
