History is full of jerks, of varying degrees. One of America’s grandest, John Wilkes Booth, was an actor who went Method expressing his disdain for President Lincoln. Unless you comb literature’s backstock, you might not know a whole lot about the guy aside from his perky haircut and propensity for assassination. That will soon change, because The Arts Community Alliance has funded a new stage production about the guy from Second Thought Theatre’s co-artistic director, Steven Walters. It’s appropriately titled Booth, and you can hear an early reading at 7:30 p.m. Monday when Second Thought’s players lend their voices to the work. Once it wraps, Jerome Weeks will lead a discussion on the project with Walters and Booth researcher Erik Archilla. Join them in Bryant Hall at Kalita Humphreys (3636 Turtle Creek Blvd.). It’s free.
