Wise men say only fools rush in, but margarita-craving Elvis fans might disagree. They understand that getting a table on Elvis Wednesdays at El Ranchito (610 W. Jefferson Blvd.) sometimes requires sprinting past the hostess. (Sorry, hostess.) What started 10 years ago as a one-night-only Elvis impersonator contest has become a bucket-list category for Dallas living. The Oak Cliff dining staple offers this service twice each year, in January (Elvis’ birthday month) and August (bye-bye Elvis month), filling those Wednesday nights with either a professional for-hire talent, like Wednesday’s show by James Wages, or with full-on Elvis impersonator battles on alternating weeks. (The last of those Elvii cattle calls is on the 29th.) You need to ring ’em up and get a reservation if you want to experience the magic, and trust us, you do. These shows (with help from their giant margarita co-conspirators) have cosmic conga-line-forming abilities. And who knows? Maybe Wages will do that dance from Clambake. Admission is $5. Call 214-946-4238.
Wednesdays. Starts: Jan. 22. Continues through Jan. 29, 2014
