The One-Minute Play Festival at first glance sounds a little like the 21st century’s ADD addled response to the art of theater. It’s actually anything but. This August audiences will have three chances to see Dallas’ inaugural One-Minute Play Festival, a festival Artistic Director Dominic D’Andrea calls a “barometer project.” Instead of focusing on the play or playwrights themselves, the festival intends to examine the immediate city, neighborhood or community in which it is staged. D’Andrea and Kitchen Dog Theater, the festival’s local producing partner and host, invited 30 + local playwrights to submit one minute plays and not surprisingly some themes emerged. You’ll see brief defenses of Dallas, explore gender identity, forgiveness and much more. So buy a ticket, head to Kitchen Dog Theater (3120 McKinney Ave.) at 8 p.m. Saturday- Monday and get to know your city, and its artists, with the inaugural One-Minute Play Festival.
