Matt Tobin and Josh Yingling, the two good friends behind Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House, are opening a new concept on Lower Greenville that will focus on house-made meats and craft beer.

“With the addition of Trader Joe’s, the food truck park, and several restaurants, there is a renaissance taking place on Lower Greenville,” says co-owner Matt Tobin. “We’re excited to be a part of the area’s revitalization.”

The Blind Butcher will take over the former Service Bar space at 1919 Greenville Avenue. The area has certainly experienced a revitalization of late: In addition to the spots Tobin mentioned, there are already a handful of new restaurants (Jack’s Southern Grill, Nora, Qariah) and existing ones — Teppo, Company Café, and The Libertine, in addition to others — that go great with the neighborhood.

Tobin and Yingling have tapped former Village Marquee sous chef Oliver Sitrin to run the kitchen and develop the menu, which will feature house-made sausage, pastrami, corned beef and the like. The spot will also serve as a commissary for the friends’ other project, Goodfriend Package Store, which is expected to open across the street from Goodfriend Beer Garden later this year.

And while one might think a Blind Butcher shan’t drink much, there will be 20 beers on draft with European, American and local beers all getting a bit of representation, all served on two patios and plenty of communal seating.
