The Dallas Police report says only that Andres Muniz was found dead on the morning on July 1, behind Elmer’s Drive-In Grocery on Riverfront, near Commerce Street. Cause of death, per the report: “Unexplained … unknown causes.” He had no known address; Muniz was homeless.
He does, though, have a final resting spot today, courtesy the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program and the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders, who rendered honors. Cynthia Vega attended Muniz’s funeral this afternoon at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, where the Marine was buried with two other homeless Army vets: Michael Reagan Gilmore and Herman Dunlop. Muniz, known as “Andy,” was 50 and served from 1979 till ’83.
