Every Thursday, we bring you ten of the weekend’s best shows. Of course, you can find even more of them with our handy concert calendar.

Fang Island
Thursday, August 16, at Dada

More on this show here.

DJ Ruthless Ramsey
Friday, August 17, at Elm Street Bar

Audra’s got a good preview about the world’s “only cassette mixologist.”

Kinky Friedman, Little Jewford
Friday, August 17, at Poor David’s Pub

He’s
my governor, even if he couldn’t beat “Governor Good Hair.” He’ll be at
Poor David’s tomorrow doing what he does best: smoking cigars and
playing country music.

Iron Maiden, Coheed & Cambria
Friday, August 17, at Gexa Energy Pavilion

Fans will converge on Gexa Energy Pavilion in their favorite metal
t-shirts to see contemporary metal band Coheed & Cambria open for
legendary metal band Iron Maiden.

Shonen Knife
Friday, August 17, at Dada

Japanese
punk act Shonen Knife has been making pop for a staggering 30 years, and are still heavily influenced in equal
parts by The Beach Boys and The Ramones. Get there early for El Paso hot Button and Dunes.

Smile Smile
Friday, August 17, at Nasher Sculpture Garden, 7pm

This free show will feature Smile Smile playing a half-acoustic, half-full-band set on the steps of the Nasher’s back garden.

The Wagoneers, Grant Jones & The Pistol Grip Lassos
Friday, August 17, at The Kessler Theater

Austin
country act The Wagoneers are experiencing a career second wind. Check
out the band’s country swing and get there early for locals Grant
Jones & The Pistol Grip Lassos.

Civil Twilight, Morning Parade, Voxhaul Broadcast
Saturday, August 18, at The Kessler Theater

Pop act Civil Twilight was last here to perform for Edgefest. They
stopped by Good Records for an in-store performance on Record Store Day
as well. It’s difficult to judge by a stripped- down record store set,
but their music isn’t too far off base with acts like Coldplay and Muse.

Daniel Hart, Radiant, Hi Ho Silver Oh
Saturday, August 18, at City Tavern

Full
disclosure: I play in the middle band. We’re lucky enough to be on this
bill with the likes of Daniel Hart, who is currently my favorite local
artist. It won’t be long until some really good opportunity takes him
away from small venues like City Tavern. Go see him in an intimate
setting while you still can.

Stalley
Saturday, August 18, at Trees
