So far, we’ve received more than 75 letters from would-be proofreaders “correcting” Richie Whitt’s lead on his sports column this week. For the record, “two shits passing in the night” was not a typo. It was a joke or–as one letter writer corrected me when I ‘splained–an attempted joke.

So far, the best response I’ve got when I’ve replied to the letters writers, telling them we really did mean to say “shits,” came from a Louis Cruse: “Where in the hell did you learn filthy fucking language like that shit?”

Keep in touch, Louis. Someday we’ll have a staff opening with your name on it. —Patrick Williams
