MiYa Chinese Brings Authentic Chinese Dishes to East Dallas

A definite upgrade from the Pei Wei that was there.

MiYa Chinese, which recently opened in Casa Linda Plaza in the former home of Pei Wei (9540 Garland Road), offers a variety of Chinese cuisines.

MiYa was founded by David Romano, who has over 30 years of experience in hospitality and restaurant management including Wok Star. Romano partnered with Jia Huang, who grew up in her family’s restaurant in China and was immersed in cooking from a young age; the name MiYa translates to Little Rice Girl. The restaurant’s vision is to “provide an authentic and elevated dining experience.”

The menu, developed based on Huang’s family recipes, offers a variety of traditional Chinese dishes, including dim sum, fried rice, lo mein, hand-pulled noodles and classic Chinese entrees such as Kung Pao chicken and Ma Po tofu (silken tofu with spicy bean sauce).

The dim sum menu includes a variety of dumplings, including xiao long bao (traditional pork soup dumplings), Wagyu beef potstickers, steamed dumplings, har gow (Cantonese shrimp dumplings), shumai (Cantonese open-topped dumplings) and more.

MiYa’s hand-pulled noodles are freshly made in-house. The highlight is Sichuan Dan Dan noodles, which comes with spicy sesame sauce, cucumber and carrot.

The entree choices are abundant. Some highlights are Mongolian beef, orange chicken, sesame chicken, beef with broccoli and Buddha’s delight (various vegetables and fried tofu).

MiYa also has a full bar with beer, wine, sake and cocktails The Asian Classic Old Fashioned ($13) is made with Maker’s Mark, Chinese rock sugar syrup and Chinese Five Spices. Not So Shirley Temples are just $5.

Lunch specials, available Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., range from $11 to $15.

MiYa’s offers several specialty desserts, including Fortune Cookie Ice Cream made locally by Henry’s Ice Cream. The menu also includes chocolate soup dumplings and crispy banana spring rolls.

The interior of MiYa is mainly red, a color associated with luck, happiness and prosperity in Chinese culture. Lantern-inspired lights and vintage Chinese drawings create a cozy yet stylish atmosphere, perfect for casual gatherings. We’re looking forward to trying it.
