There may only be a few proper tiki bars in Dallas, but the ones that show up, show out.

National Piña Colada Day is the perfect time to sip your favorite rum-based cocktail, complete with one of those little umbrellas, a whole slew of other over-the-top garnishes. (The drink originated in Puerto Rico, but has been adopted by tropical-island-themed tiki bars.)

Find some of the best piña coladas in Dallas at these cocktail bars, summer pop-up experiences and longtime favorites.

La Tiki Paisa

Editor's Picks

5801 Northwest Highway (inside Half Price Books)Did you know there’s a tiki lounge inside the Half Price Books mothership on Northwest Highway? We’d never kid about such a thing. We recently indulged in its whole fried fish, which might be the best damn fish taco in the city, but it’s also a wonderful spot to grab a cold tropical drink. Most of the tiki menu is rum-based, but it also has some drinks with tequila, also fun. The Iguana Party is made with dark rum, Underberg bitters, pineapple, orgeat and lime.

The Piña Loca Fruteria

2331 Lakeland DriveThe piña colada at The Piña Loca Fruteria is one of the most over-the-top you can get in Dallas. It’s served in a whole pineapple and decorated with pineapple slices, a pile of whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. The family-owned shop also serves munchie-approved food and snacks like Mexican pica candy, elotes, milkshakes and a ton of other creative and vibrant bites.

1802 Greenville Ave. Before Dallas’ staple tiki bar closes, stop by for its frozen piña colada one last time. Swizzle makes its with house-made coconut cream, pineapple and Puerto Rican rum. All their other drinks follow the same tropical theme, which beckons anyone to stay for a round two, and the food is just as inviting. It could be the only place in Dallas where you can order Dole Whip, so take advantage of that while you still can. Swizzle will close its doors on Saturday, July 19.

Any coconut vessel will do the trick for National Piña Colada Day, like this one at Tiki Paisa in Half Price Books.
