Dallas is now Dickless.

We apologize for the pun, but it seems the proper way to tell you that the Dick’s Last Resort near American Airlines Center closed on Nov. 30, according to Culturemap Dallas. The restaurant, known for its “saucy” smack-talking waiters and a marketing story about a dude named Dick who failed at his big plans and resorted to opening a bar-staurant, offered endless riffs and merch built around dick jokes. The first one opened in the West End in 1985, and after an ownership reshuffle, grew into a chain with 12 locations nationwide. The Dallas location moved to 2211 N. Lamar St., closer to the AAC, in 2005.

So that’s 40 years of doing this business, which is actually a pretty good run for Dick’s. (Again, sorry, but writing about the joint without resorting to penis puns is hard. And those last two were unintentional.)

CultureMap, citing a representative of the Nashville-based chain, reported business was falling at the Dallas location. It faced an increase in rent from its building’s owner, a factor playing into a few restaurant closings lately, and opted to shutter instead.

In our annual Best of Dallas issues, Dick’s was our pick for the Best Karaoke Night in 2018 and Best Place To Attend a Non-Stuffy Book-Signing in 2000, but the last time we wrote about the joint was in 2024, when we called it one of the 10 worst restaurants to take a date in Dallas.

“Everyone knows the deal at Dick’s Last Resort,” Carly Gravley wrote. “The waiters are comically rude and make you wear hats with insults on them. We’re not saying it’s a bad spot for a couple with a sense of humor, but we are saying that if you despise and resent your date, drive the point home by agreeing with every insult the servers hurls at them.”

Well, that’s off the table, but don’t worry, passive-aggressive date-haters, there are still plenty of bowling alleys around.
