$10,000

Somewhere along the line, opera got a bad rap. Modern masses quickly bolt at the sight of a fat lady singing, and few people still know what it’s like to spend a night at the opera. Perhaps that’s why the Dallas Opera has joined forces with the Dallas Foundation in an effort to spread opera appreciation to a stadium full of people. Instead of telling everyone to dress up and grab some mini-binoculars for a potentially expensive evening at the Winspear, the Dallas Opera is giving the public a free taste of opera fineries this weekend with a live simulcast of Puccini’s Turandot, to be broadcast on the mega-screens of Cowboys Stadium (One Legends Way, Arlington). And, to wet everyone’s whistle, the event kicks off with a screening of the classic Warner Bros. cartoon, “What’s Opera, Doc?” Doors open at 6 p.m. Saturday. Elmer starts hunting wabbits at 7.
