There’s something wrong with college football. Championship matchups are decided by computers rather than playoffs; coaches change teams more than they do their underwear; and we have too many damn bowl games where mediocre football teams are allowed into the playoffs as a means to hype up advertising bucks. It’s not about match-ups; it’s about dollars and cents. And so here we have yet another bowl game: The Heart of Dallas Bowl. The game takes place at The Cotton Bowl on Tuesday, and features a battle between the incredibly pedestrian (6-6) Purdue Boilermakers, and the just over .500 (7-5) Oklahoma State Cowboys. Seriously, we now have bowl games for teams so unexceptional that they would not make the playoffs in any other sport. The redeeming quality of this matchup outweighs its ho-humness, with net profits from the event benefiting charities that serve the homeless population in Dallas. Also, you’re off work, bored and hungover, so getting a little fresh air is a good idea. The game starts at 11 a.m., and tickets start at $25.
