Worm charming, air sex, extreme ironing–you name it, and folks are out there somewhere competing to be crowned its champion. So, if you’ve never heard of the United States Barista Championship, big whoop. It and other barista competitions are out there, and baristas with mad drink-concocting skills from right here in Dallas are taking home prizes. Take Jon Meadows, for example. The 21-year-old Dallasite took fifth at the South Central Regional Barista Competition down in Austin in January, and he’ll be competing at the USBC in a few weeks. But, until then, you can catch him at White Rock Coffee (10105 E. Northwest Highway) this weekend as he whips up his signature drink, which he says, “causes the consumer to stretch their mind just a little.” Sounds ominous, yet delicious. He’ll be at WRC from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 214-341-4774.
Fri., April 2, 6-8 p.m.; Sat., April 3, 6-8 p.m.; Sun., April 4, 6-8 p.m., 2010
