Being that I’ve lived in Texas most of my life, and I’ve never been to Africa or anywhere that’s even semi-close to Africa, I know you think I know nothing about African food. But when I lived in Austin, I used to go to this awesome Ethiopian restaurant all the time. A friend of a friend even said they saw Woody Harrelson eating there once. So take that! Sadly, the place is closed now, but I do have a suggestion if you’re looking to chow down on some African…chow. Hit up the Taste of Africa Festival at 6 p.m. Sunday at SMU’s Hughes-Trigg Student Center (6425 Boaz St.) and sample dishes from 12 African countries. Tickets are $15 for adults (with a discount for kids) and can be purchased at the door. For more information, visit dfwinternational.org.

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?
At the Dallas Observer, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $14,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of the Dallas Observer, now’s the time to give back.
