Addison may be a far cry from Munich, but your eyes will deceive you this weekend when 70,000 Germanophiles descend upon the city for its annual Oktoberfest celebration that startas at 6 p.m. Thursday. There’s something for everyone —drunks, health nuts, thrill-seekers and children alike. Paulaner Bier is sponsoring the event and you’ll find German beverages and delicacies to snack on at every turn, but there will be plenty of heart and waistline sparing activities, too. Saturday begins with a 5K run benefitting Wipe Out Kid’s Cancer. Carnival rides and midway games will appeal to young ones and the young at heart. Make haste to Addison Circle if you’re into bratwurst, men in lederhosen and spelling beer with an i. It’s the perfect warm up for State Fair season. Admission is free on opening day and adult admission is $10 thereafter. More info is at addisontexas.net.
Fridays, 6 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 20, noon-midnight; Sun., Sept. 21, 12-6 p.m. Starts: Sept. 19. Continues through Sept. 19, 2014
