It can get trashy at times, and we’re not about to swim in it anytime soon. But White Rock Lake is still one thing Dallas has managed to do right, a manmade oasis of natural beauty that doesn’t need Calatrava string art or concrete fake rapids to attract joggers, bikers, kayakers and boaters — as well as artists in search of inspiration. Photographers J.R. Compton, Brian Hiltz and Todd Landry are among those artists. Each has a unique way of capturing the lake’s personality, whether it’s Compton’s striking action shot of two egrets in flight, Hiltz’s haunting photo of an empty snow-covered pier or Landry’s sparkling sunset shot of a boat house. Their works will be on display in the photography exhibition White Rock Lake: An Inspiring Work of Art noon to 6 p.m. (and till 10 p.m. on nights with theater performances) Tuesdays through Saturdays, through October 1, at the White Rock Lake Museum inside the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E.
