You know what your mom really, really, REALLY wants for Mother’s Day? No, not flowers or candy or a Hallmark card. She wants a picture frame made out of popsicle sticks, or a macaroni necklace, or a really crappy breakfast-in-bed with runny pancakes and burnt toast. Yes, those things are indeed unattractive and messy, but they show Mom you care enough about her to spend time making her something. And the other thing moms like, of course, is actually getting to hang out with you once in a while. So after she reads her homemade construction paper card this weekend, whisk her away to the Swiss Avenue Historic District’s 35th Annual Mother’s Day Home Tour. It’s gonna be a huge celebration with home and garden tours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, plus a parade down Swiss Avenue (noon Saturday), a Metro Grill brunch in Savage Park (Parkmont Street and Swiss Avenue, at 10 a.m. Sunday) and music and entertainment at Savage Park throughout the weekend. Whew. That oughta tire Mom out. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. For reservations for the Sunday brunch, call 214-577-7171. For more information, visit sahd.org.
