I despise Ikea. The store’s furniture is rickety, particle-board crap that costs about twice what you’d pay at Wal-Mart and is distinguished only in its “modern” styling that apparently appeals to the store’s customer base, middle-aged divorcees and Wayne Coyne. Canadian comedian Jeremy Hotz is with me, judging by his routine about getting lost in the horrible place for five hours. “They do nothing for you,” he says in a shaky voice that sounds simultaneously on the verge of laughter and tears. “Here, take this bundle of wood and get out!” Hotz performs through Sunday at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road. Tickets are $15 to $17. Call 972-404-8501 or visit improvclubs.com for reservations and showtimes.

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?
At the Dallas Observer, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $14,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of the Dallas Observer, now’s the time to give back.
