Put a little jazz in your step at the 20th annual Denton Arts & Jazz Festival. There’s no “Austin wanna-be” about it, this free weekend festival is all Denton, from the sounds and sights to the flavor and jazz tradition that make up the city. Friday’s headliners include the Chick Corea Trio, which has been nominated for 51 Grammy Awards and won 15, while Saturday features Jimmie Vaughan and Lou Ann Barton, who recently performed together at Austin’s SXSW music festival. And as per tradition, expect to do the “Hokey Pokey” and the “Chicken Dance” with Denton natives Brave Combo on Sunday night. The event attracts more than 200,000 art and music lovers annually from all over the region and this year boasts more than 2,200 performers on seven stages, fine arts and crafts, children’s activities, food and games. Bring chairs and blankets, but no coolers in the jazz area. The festival opens at 5 p.m. Friday and late morning Saturday and Sunday at Quakertown Park on East McKinney Street.
