Ever since the mindless swill the Disney Channel serves up cornered the market a few years back, kids spend their time learning about young pop stars who lead double lives and pretty teenage girls who are full of angst ’cause they’re also wizards. Kinda makes you lose faith in children’s entertainment, doesn’t it? If the younger generation were to latch onto some of the gems from my childhood, I admit, I’d be a little psyched. Sadly, I just don’t see a comeback in the works for David the Gnome. But all is not lost. The Stinky Cheese Man, for example, was one of my fave reads back in the day, and it’s currently making the rounds as live theater. Catch it (if you can) at the Dupree Theater, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. in Irving, at 10:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Performances feature the Paul Mesner Puppets. Tickets are $6 and can be purchased by calling the Irving Arts Center box office at 972-252-2787. For more information, visit irvingartscenter.com.
