A lot of us have a complex relationship with fashion. Sometimes we find an item of clothing that makes us feel good, and BAM, we’re in love. But sometimes nothing fits, and we’d rather just walk around naked than deal with the whole thing. And yet, compared to the way local artist Lily Hanson relates to fashion, our issues might as well be one-dimensional. Hanson’s work is directly inspired by fashion, and by playing with the concept of mixing contrasts such as hard and soft, or colorful and muted, her pieces reflect the discourse of the fashion industry. Using found objects and textiles, she creates soft sculptures that explore our understanding of the concept of fabric meeting skin and our reactions to it.
