Supposedly Prince tribute act 1999 does a fine imitation of His Purpleness, but so far the signs aren’t pointing to a carbon copy of the original. As far as we can tell, the band hasn’t changed names a single time during its existence, unlike the artist formerly known as The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. Also unchanged is the venue for this show, unlike Prince’s scheduled show during Super Bowl XLV, which was originally scheduled to take place at the Parking Lot Formerly Known As Reunion Arena, then moved to some hotel conference room in Addison and finally canceled. And we have yet to hear of any last-minute two-for-one discounts in an effort to prevent such a cancellation. But those differences are probably welcome to anyone planning to catch 1999 at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the House of Blues, 2200 N. Lamar St. Also welcome to tribute-act fans is the roughly $1,480 difference in price between passes for Prince’s aborted gig and the ticket price for 1999, which range from $10.25 to $20 for reserved seats.
