Like his father—the legendary Texas singer-songwriter/artist/playwright Terry Allen—artist Bale Creek Allen has dipped his toe in many media, from acting to song to sculpture. He’s even tried his hand at creative taxidermy, forming art with the carcasses of diamondback rattlesnakes. His newest exhibit, Empire, uses sculpture, found objects and said snakes to comment on the state of America today, touching on the issues affecting us all—from religious divisions to the war in Iraq. See it Friday through March 17 at the Gerald Peters Gallery, 2913 Fairmount St. The exhibit is accompanied by Creatures, a collection of photography curated by Allen and featuring the photographs of his mother—Jo Harvey Allen—as well as work by Matthew Fuller, Kim Maguire, Zoe Nauman, Sean Perry, Tony Stamolis, Joel-Peter Witkin and Todd Wolfson.
