“That’s a good dog. Yes he is! Who’s a good puppy? Who’s a good puppy?!! Yes he is! OK, sit. Good boy! Down. No, down. Good boy! Roll over. Good boy! Aww, he likes having his tummy rubbed. Yes he does! Good boy. OK, fetch. Go get it! Wow, look at him run. Honey, look. Ha ha! He’s just running in circles. Look at him! OK, good boy. All right, sit. No, sit. Hey, what’s he…NO! BAD DOG! BAD. DOG. Aww, honey, look, he’s sorry. Oh, it’s OK, boy. Aww, that’s a good dog. Yes he is!”

And so on. Having a dog is like getting a lobotomy—in the best possible way. The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) is ensuring that more people find their inner baby-talking fool by placing retired dog athletes in “forever homes.” To raise funds, GALT is holding the “Greyt” Athletes Dinner and Auction, auctioning memorabilia items including a Tony Romo-signed football. Dog-loving human athletes (insert your favorite anti-Michael Vick joke here) including Randy White will be on hand. The reception is at 6 p.m. Saturday at Park City Club, 5956 Sherry Lane, Suite 1700. Tickets ($125) and more information are at galtx.org or 972-503-4258.
