Until relatively recently, being environmentally conscious meant that you were an earthy, crunchy hippie with earthy, crunchy Birkenstocks. It meant that for all of your composting, recycling and earth-friendly efforts, you were an object of derision on par with the crazy cat lady and her ilk. But unlike the cat ladies of the world, redemption is at hand for the green-minded as the rest of the country starts to get on board with alternative energy, sustainable consumerism and composting fun. We actually went to Home Depot a few weeks ago and they were sold out of composters (!). It’s a sea change, and though it may be too little, too late in a lot of ways, it’s a good sign that people are coming around. Perhaps this means that the younger generations can redeem us from our past sins. Give your future earthy-crunchies a head start on earth-consciousness with tickets to Bixby’s Rainforest Rescue at the Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson. This interactive show features a menagerie of rainforest friends that will guide your little ones down the path of conservation (dirty sandals optional). The show starts at 2:30 p.m., but arrive early for green-themed antics in the lobby at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available at eisemanncenter.org for between $20 and $30. Call 972-744-4650 for more information.
