What Play?

Child actress Kaitlin Cullum played Libby Kelly on the mid-’90s sitcom Grace Under Fire, acting as the freckle-faced foil to recovering alcoholic Brett Butler and her gaggle of Everyman blue-collar suitors. Then, presumably, young Cullum went on to an adolescence plagued with drug addiction, promiscuous sex, convenience store robberies and Staind concerts. A decade later, she’s traded the bottle for the Bible and written a compelling one-woman show about her life as a child star. Entitled Surviving Grace, the play opens Thursday at the Cox Building Playhouse, 1517 H Avenue in Plano. Or maybe we’re mixed up. Says here on the press release Grace is actually a heart-warming comedy about Alzheimer’s written by Trish Vradenburg, co-founder of the Alzheimer’s Action PAC and a former writer for Designing Women and Family Ties. So we weren’t that far off. Showtimes for Surviving Grace are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through June 23 (with a special matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9).
