The Met Gala, the haute couture fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, will return to New York City on May 5. What’s often referred to as “fashion’s biggest night” is spearheaded by Vogue and traditionally held on the first Monday of every May.

Just yesterday, the host committee for the gala was dropped online, with Dallas’ own Sha’Carri Richardson at the forefront along with other fashionable luminaries.

The highly anticipated event draws global interest from the biggest names in Hollywood, sports, business, social media and even politics. It's reportedly one of the primary sources of capital for the famed museum and traditionally marks the opening of the institute’s annual fashion exhibition, which for 2025 will be Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.

Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibition will explore Black "dandies" from the 18th century to present day by looking into “dandy” style — a term that described middle-class men who enjoyed luxury, the arts, fine dining and socializing. It’s the first exhibition at the Met devoted to menswear in more than 20 years.

“I’m beyond excited to stand with my fellow Host Committee members in supporting The Met and this year’s spring Costume Institute exhibition, celebrating the undeniable impact of Black creativity on fashion and culture for centuries,” Richardson said in a statement. “Our style isn’t just what we wear — it’s how we move, how we own our space, how we tell our story without saying a word. Fashion sets us apart, but it also brings us together — whether you’re shining on the track, commanding the stage, or just making the streets of New York your runway. On May 5, our light will continue shining on the power of style, and trust me, you don’t wanna miss it.”

Standing alongside the Olympian will be event chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour. Other host committee members include André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jordan Casteel, Dapper Dan, Grammy-winning artist Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Jeremy O. Harris, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Rashid Johnson, Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, among many other A-list greats.

In addition to the Who’s Who, the dress code for the gala is always a hot topic. Just released on February 4, the attire theme is titled “Tailored for You,” where attendees are invited to wear “a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting that’s sure to bring out the sartorial creativity of this year’s attendees.”

With Richardson repping Dallas at one of the top events in fashion, we’ll definitely be tuned in to see how our local superstar will rock this year's unique theme. Perhaps a collab with Dallas’ own dandy-inspired clothier Don Morphy will be in order, or maybe something from Dallas' famous Black dandy flash mob Black Menswear will ensue.
