Escondido Tex Mex Patio, a crowd-favorite in Preston Hollow and our 2025 pick for best queso in Dallas, has announced a second location on Lower Greenville. It will be right across the street from the Granada Theater, so we’ll definitely be pre-gaming our next concert there with margaritas and queso.
The first location opened its doors in 2022 and has quickly become a neighborhood staple in Preston Hollow. It is loved by customers and critics for its inventive Tex-Mex menu, vibrant patio and exceptional bar.
“The attention to detail at Escondido is apparent,” Observer critic Nick Reynolds gushed in a 2022 first look. “La Norteña tortillas are from scratch, every sauce is made in-house and the enchiladas are made-to-order. TJ’s Seafood Market sources all the seafood, and the brisket is slow-roasted for 24 hours. No shortcuts.”
Owner Jon Alexis, the local restaurant titan behind TJ’s Seafood Market & Grill, Birdie’s Eastside, Ramble Room and Malibu Poke, is “thrilled to join one of Dallas’ liveliest neighborhoods.”

“Melty cheese can do no wrong, but the queso at Escondido holds a special place in our hearts,” we wrote in our 2025 Best of Dallas issue. “The classic queso is topped with roasted poblanos and pico, and serves as the head honcho of the El Trio appetizer sampler (guacamole, queso and a spicy cilantro ranch).”
“Greenville Avenue is electric right now,” said Alexis in a statement to the press. “We can’t wait to bring Escondido to one of our favorite dining districts.”
The new location on Greenville will feature Escondido’s popular $7 Margarita Mondays, daily happy hour specials and weekend brunch, as well as an upscale dining room, a bar and a climate-controlled patio.
But the one section of the new property that threatens to outshine all of the expected Escondido’s gusto is its parking lot, which representatives of the restaurant claim will be among the largest in the neighborhood. If you’ve ever tried to park in Lower Greenville, you’re likely sold on this feature alone.
