Dallas had some interesting developments in November. Soon, we’re all going to be nostalgic for $7 slices of artisanal toast, a favorite barbecue spot is getting a BBL, another Deep Ellum watering hole shutters and more food news.
Toasted
5420 Ross Ave.
Toasted was a ground-breaking concept for Dallas when it started slinging $7 artisanal bread slices in 2016. The concept had a solid 9-year run in Lowest Greenville, but ultimately, an expiring lease and costly equipment repairs accelerated the decision to close. It won’t be long until the $7 slices of bread Dallas initially balked at will end up as a nostalgic think piece, ironically.
Elm St. Saloon
2708 Elm St.
Elm St. Saloon officially closed its doors on Sunday, Nov. 30. The Deep Ellum watering hole came to the end of its 5-year lease in the neighborhood and decided not to renew. It joins dozens of other businesses in Deep Ellum that have shuttered due to ongoing difficulties in the area.
Ferris Wheeler’s Backyard and BBQ
1950 Market Center Blvd.
After eight years, Ferris Wheelers is ready for something new. The favorite for the ‘cue is closing temporarily and will reopen as a music-focused venue. When the owners took to Facebook to announce the rebrand, they noted an evolving neighborhood, economic pressures small businesses face today, and infrastructure challenges as reasons for the closure. They’re choosing to start fresh, rather than continue with patching problems. For now, they’re only hosting concerts and special events, as announced on their Facebook page, until they’re ready for the grand reopening.

Kaiyo
2014 Greenville Ave.
Kaiyo was a sneaky little closure that The Dallas Morning News first reported on. Last month (allegedly), the two-year-old sushi restaurant removed all the posts from its Instagram, but one with a caption that read: “Kaiyo is now under new ownership and will be temporarily closed.” Now, Kaiyo’s Instagram account is no longer active. We don’t know what will come from the casual Lower Greenville spot, but we’ll keep you posted.
Yolk
8315 Westchester Drive
A massive mixed-use redevelopment is happening on Yolk’s corner of the Preston Center, and therefore, the breakfast staple is now closed for good. The development won’t be open until 2028, and we’re unsure if Yolk will reclaim its old stomping grounds.
Ella Dine + Drinks
7949 Walnut Hill Lane
This past June, Chido Taco Lounge was transformed into Ella Dine + Drinks, which was only open for a few months before it officially closed in October 2025. D Magazine received a tip from a reader that their up-and-coming reservation was cancelled. Owner of Ella, Blaine McGowan, apologized for the cancellation, stating that he was forced to close and that things are hard for independent businesses right now.
