Lower Greenville is truly one of the best neighborhoods in Dallas. The treelined streets are home to restaurants and bars with lots of character. The options range from dive bars to Michelin recommended restaurants. It’s pedistrian friendly and simply one of the best places in Dallas to waste away an afternoon.
Unfortunately, it’s seen a number of local restaurants closing recently.
HIDE originally opened in Deep Ellum in 2017 and was popular for its cocktails and mad scientist vibes. Like so many others, it closed during the 2020 pandemic, only to reappear on Lower Greenville in 2022. At the new space, they sported an amazing rooftop that transformed into a Christmas wonderland during the holidays. Plus, HIDE had a great burger and happy hour.
Alas, we’ve learned, as reported in this article about inflation and tarrifs, that great spaces, vibes, food and specials might not cut it. Sigh.
On a recent trip along Lower Greenville, HIDE looked closed. I’d hoped it was just a deep spring cleaning. Turns out, it has shuttered.
This makes three bars that have closed in about block over the past year, along with the tiki lounge Swizzle and Belguim bar Meyboom Brasserie. The Michelin-recommended Rye recently closed also, but it was swallowed by it’s sister concept Apothecary. Some of the old menu from Rye is still on offer at Apothecary. We count this one as a wash.
We reached out to both the bar and the landlords for any intel on what might be going into the space and what prompted the closure. No word back.
